"The Blank Page" Story Outline (text)

Story Idea v1:
The Blank Page

1) Setting: Park, early/ late morning - slow to moderately busy
Zoom out to see an empty table and bench
Enter: Main character (Aya) carrying some papers and a shoulder bag
Looks discontent/ sits down and lays out her things
- Couple walks by and she makes a face of disgust/ sighs (lonely look on her face)
Gets an idea (puts ink bottle at the edge of the page so the page doesn’t blow away) and draws the figure of a young man
- he is in a simple full body pose (see poster image)
- sighs and gazes at him for a while
His figure starts to move! (He adjusts his standing position and looks around the page)
- she is startled and a bit afraid at first
- he notices and gestures for her to come over
She looks around and reaches out cautiously as if she isn’t even sure if it’s possible
- she is pulled into the page, knocking over her ink onto the paper in the process
- ink slowly saturates the page

2) Setting: In the page, blank background
Close up of the girl as if she had braced for impact
The young man she drew approaches her and smiles, she’s stunned
He takes the pencil from behind her ear and draws her a flower garden/ picks one and gives it to her
Still stunned but smiles, accepts it and they walk away
- as they leave, we see a black shadow (it’s the ink saturating the page) engulf the small garden, “destroying” it
They both turn around, seeing the garden is gone and the black shadows is gaining speed, headed right for them.
- they run to the edge of the page and are trapped/ no where else to go
- as the shadow draws closer, the guy gestures for her to go because he can’t leave the paper; she is reluctant and hesitates/ the shadow has nearly engulfed the entire page
- without warning, he pushes her out and she flies out of the page

3) Setting: Back in the park, around lunch time - moderately busy
She runs back, but it is completely black and the young man is gone
Puts the page aside, pulls out a new one and tries drawing him again but nothing happens
She stares at the page sadly and a shadow falls over it
- startled, she looks up/ sees that it is a young man very closely resembling the person in her drawing
The young man is curious, looking at her drawing and gives an “I’m sorry if I bothered you” look
- she shakes her head and offers him a seat across from her/ she moves aside her things and they start up a conversation (unheard) - gestures suggest she is explaining her recent “misadventure”/ Camera zoom out
End.
